국제 인권단체인 `휴먼 라잇츠 워치'는 서방국들에 대해 야후와 구글 및 다른 인터넷 회사들이 중국의 인터넷 검열을 지원하지 못하도록 금지하는 새로운 법을 제정할 것을 촉구했습니다.
휴먼 라잇츠 워치는 10일 발표한 149쪽의 보고서에서 미국과 유럽연합 등 서방국들은 이들 인터넷 회사들이 개인사용자 정보를 중국 내 서버에 저장하지 못하도록 하는 법을 제정해야 한다고 말했습니다. 이 단체는 주민들이 기본권을 행사하는 것을 처벌하는 나라에서는 사용자 자료가 저장돼서는 안된다고 밝혔습니다.
이번 보고서는 야후와 구글 등 세계 주요 인터넷 회사들이 사용자들에게 알리지 않고 중국 내 정치자료들을 적극 검열하고 있는 실태를 밝히고 있습니다.

Human Rights Watch is calling on Western powers to introduce laws to stop Yahoo, Google and other Internet companies from helping China censor the Internet.
In a 149-page report released today (Thursday), the New York-based organization said the United States, European Union and other Western powers should pass legislation requiring Western Internet companies to refrain from storing personal user data on servers in China.
It said that no user data should be stored in places where there is a strong record of punishing individuals for exercising basic rights.
The report documents how some of the world's major Internet companies actively censor political material in China without telling users.
Human Rights Watch and several other rights organizations have repeatedly condemned Internet companies working in China for censoring information. Yahoo, in particular, has been criticized for providing Chinese authorities with information used to prosecute individuals.
