일본의 이토 이초 나가사키 시장은 원자폭탄 투하 61주년 기념식에서 핵 무기 확산을 막기위해 강대국들이 반드시 조치를 취해야한다고 말했습니다. 이토 시장은 올해 체결된 미국과 인도간의 민간 핵기술 이전협정을 비판했습니다.
이토 시장은 또한 핵무기를 보유하고있다고 밝힌 북한에 대해 일본만이 아니라 전세계 평화와 안정에 위협이 된다고 말했습니다.
나가사키 당국은 지난 1945년 8월 9일에 미군이 투하한 원자폭탄으로 7만4천명이 그 자리에서 숨졌다고 밝히고 있습니다. 그후 방사능 노출로 인한 각종 질병으로 원폭 희생자수는 거의 두배로 늘어났습니다. 원자폭탄이 투하된 후 엿새만에 일본이 미국과 연합군에 항복함으로써 제2차 세계대전이 종식됐습니다.

In Nagasaki, the Japanese industrial center destroyed by a U.S. atomic bomb 61 years ago today (Wednesday), the city's mayor says world powers must take action to stop the spread of nuclear weapons.
Mayor Itcho Ito criticized the United States, for its agreement this year to help India develop nuclear technology. He added that North Korea, which says it has a nuclear arsenal, is a threat to the peace and stability not only of Japan, but of all the world.
(Estimates vary widely, but) Authorities in Nagasaki say the atomic bomb dropped on August 9th, 1945, killed about 74 thousand people outright. Since then, the overall death toll has nearly doubled, due to ailments caused by the long-lasting effects of radiation.
Japan surrendered to the United States and its allies six days after the bomb fell, and the Second World War ended.
