지난 7월 2일 실시된 멕시코 대통령 선거에서 근소한 표차로 낙선한 좌파 후보 로페즈 오브라도르씨가 전면적인 재개표를 요구하는 6주 동안의 항의시위를 시작했습니다.
오브라도르씨는 멕시코 시티의 선거법원 앞에 모인 수천여명의 지지자들에게 4천1백만표 모두를 재개표해야 한다는 요구를 포기하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다. 이보다 이틀 앞서 멕시코 연방선거법원은 멕시코 전역의 13만 투표소 가운데 9%에 해당하는 곳에 대해서만 재개표를 하도록 지시했습니다.
이번 대통령에서는 보수성향 후보인 펠레페 칼데론씨가 득표율에서 낙선한 오브라도르씨와 불과 0.5%포인트를 약간 넘는 표차로 당선됐습니다.

Leftist Mexican presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has launched a sixth week of protests, demanding a full vote recount from the July 2nd election.
On Monday, Lopez Obrador told several thousand supporters gathered outside the electoral court in Mexico City that he would not give up on his demand for a recount of all 41-million ballots cast.
The demonstration came two days after Mexico's Federal Electoral Tribunal ordered a recount at only about nine percent of the nation's 130-thousand voting stations.
That move was applauded by supporters of conservative ruling party candidate Felipe Calderon. Calderon won the election by a little more than half a percent of the votes cast.
Lopez Obrador has pledged to keep up the street protests until he gets a total recount.
