Israel says the offensive, which began more than a month ago, is aimed at stopping Palestinian rocket attacks into Israel and securing the release of a Jewish soldier kidnapped by militants.
The United Nations says 175 Palestinians have been killed since the fighting began.
U.N. humanitarian agencies said Friday they were alarmed by the ongoing fighting. The agencies reminded all the parties involved of their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
