The towering athlete and Chinese Olympic gold medalist Li Ning are starring in a new series of advertisements by the environmental group WildAid, reminding fellow Chinese to protect endangered species.
WildAid president Steve Trent told reporters today (Wednesday) China must ease its consumption of shark's fin soup if some species of shark are to survive. The group says shark populations are facing unprecedented pressure because the dish has gotten so popular.
A U.N. agency says around 100 million sharks are caught each year, but other experts say the true number could be twice that.
