Israeli warplanes hit Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon today (Monday) -- even though Israel declared a 48-hour suspension of aerial bombing.
Israeli officials say the strike near Taibe was to support ground troops battling Hezbollah guerillas. They say air support was called in after an anti-tank missile wounded three Israeli soldiers.
Israel has warned airstrikes could be carried out during the two-day suspension in the event of a Hezbollah attack.
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz says no ceasefire will be immediately implemented. He told the Israeli parliament that Israeli forces plan to expand their offensive against Hezbollah.
In other developments, the Israeli army expressed regret for a strike that killed a Lebanese soldier today (Monday). Israel says it thought the car carrying the soldier was carrying a senior Hezbollah guerilla.
