Five major Muslim countries have denounced Israel's offensive against Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon, and expressed "grave concern over the deteriorating situation and unabated violence."
The foreign ministers of Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Bangladesh issued the statement today (Friday) after holding talks in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of a regional forum.
The statement condemned Israel's military action and what it called its "indiscriminate and excessive use of force."
Iran is one of the main backers of Hezbollah.
The five foreign ministers also discussed plans to hold an emergency meeting on the crisis of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the world's leading Muslim political grouping, on August third in Malaysia.
