파키스탄은 일년에 40개 내지 50개의 핵무기 제조에 충분한 플루토늄을 생산해 낼 수 있는 원자로를 건설 중에 있다고 워싱턴에 본부를 둔 과학국제안보연구소, ISIS가 밝혔습니다.
ISIS는 위성 사진들이 파키스탄 푼잔부 쿠샤브 지역의 소규모 핵시설 인근에 보다 규모가 큰 원자로가 건설될 가능성을 보여주고 있다고 보고했습니다. ISIS는 그 같은 경수로에서는 매년 40 내지 50개의 핵무기를 제조할 수 있는 200킬로그램 이상의 무기급 플루토늄이 생산될 수 있을 것이라고 말했습니다.
파키스탄 외무부 대변인은 새로운 원자로가 건설되고 있는 지의 여부를 밝히기 거부했으나 파키스탄의 현 핵무기 개발 계획과 쿠샤브의 핵 시설들은 이미 잘 알려진 것들이라고 말했습니다.

A Washington-based research institute says Pakistan is building a nuclear reactor that could produce enough plutonium for 40 to 50 nuclear weapons a year.
The Institute for Science and International Security reports that satellite photos show a possible construction site for a larger nuclear reactor near the small one in the Khushab district of Punjab province.
The report says such a reactor could produce over 200 kilograms of weapons-grade
plutonium -- good for 40 to 50 nuclear weapons a year.
According to some media reports, Pakistan is now capable of producing plutonium for just two warheads a year.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman (Tasnim Aslam) declined to say whether a new reactor is being constructed, but she said the presence of a nuclear weapons program and facilities at Khushab are well known.
