Russia and the United States have failed to reach a bilateral deal that would allow Russia to join the World Trade Organization.
Top U.S. negotiator Susan Schwab said the two sides made significant progress during talks this week and she expects to reach an agreement within the next few months.
Speaking after bilateral talks today (Saturday) President Bush said there is more work to be done and negotiations will continue. Russian President Vladimir Putin added that the negotiations process is complex.
During its 13 year bid for W.T.O. entry, Russia has made agreements with other organization members, but needs a deal with the United States before it can join the organization.
Washington and Moscow have been haggling over protection of intellectual property, access to Russia's banking sector and entry to the Russian market for U.S. farm goods, among other issues.
