럼스펠드 장관은 11일 사전 예고없이 아프간을 방문해 하미드 카라자이 아프간 대통령을 만나는 동안 그같이 말했습니다. 럼스펠드 장관은 카르자이 대통령과의 공동 기자회견에서, 아프간의 대부분 폭력 사태는 인접국인 파키스탄에 근거지를 둔 탈레반 저항 세력의 소행이라고 비난했습니다.
럼스펠드 장관은 탈레반과 알-카에다 움직임을 막기 위한 아프간 이웃 국가들과의 지역적 협력이 도움이 되고 있다고 말하고, 그러나 충분하지는 않다고 덧붙였습니다.

U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says the Taleban-led insurgency in Afghanistan will be defeated.
He made the remark during a previously unannounced visit to Kabul today (Tuesday) and talks with President Hamid Karzai.
During a joint news conference, Rumsfeld blamed much of the violence in Afghanistan on Taleban insurgents based in neighboring Pakistan.
He said increased regional cooperation to stop Taleban and al-Qaeda movements in Afghanistan has been helpful, but that it has not reduced cross-border activity.
The U.S.-led coalition says it killed at least 30 Taleban rebels during a raid on a militant hideout in Helmand province today. Monday, the coalition said it had killed 40 Taleban in Uruzgan province.
