미 국방부도 럼스펠드 장관의 타지키스탄 방문사실을 확인했으나 보안상의 이유로 일정은 공개하지 않았습니다.
타지키스탄 외무부는 럼스펠드 장관이 에모말리 라흐모노프 대통령과 쌍무 협력 및 이웃국 아프간의 정세에 관해 논의할 것이라고 말했습니다. 두나라는 지난 3월 국경 보호에 관한 양국간 협력을 강화하기로 합의한 바 있습니다.

The foreign ministry in Tajikistan says U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is expected to visit the country later today for talks on the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
The Pentagon confirmed the secretary was traveling, but did not give his itinerary for security reasons.
The Tajik foreign ministry says Rumsfeld will meet President Emomaly Rakhmonov to discuss bilateral cooperation and the situation in neighboring Afghanistan.
The two countries signed an agreement in March reinforcing their cooperation on border protection.
U.S. aircraft have been using Tajik airspace for Afghan-related missions since 2001. The agreement gained more importance after U.S. military was expelled from a base in Uzbekistan last year over U.S. criticism of human rights abuses there.
Rumsfeld last paid a visit to Tajikistan in August 2005, to thank the Tajik government for its contribution to the U.S.-led war on terror.
