Israel's defense minister has vowed to do all he can to gain the return of a soldier captured by Palestinian militants during an attack today (Sunday).
Amir Peretz told reporters the militants who took the soldier captive will pay a painful price for the attack on an Israeli army post near Gaza. Two soldiers and three Palestinian militants were killed in the fighting.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says he holds the Palestinian Authority responsible.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the raid and the Hamas government called on the Israeli soldier's captors not to harm him.
