부쉬 대통령은 14일, 백악관에서 기자들의 질문에 답변하면서 미 국무부는 수감자들의 해당 국가들이 자국의 시민들을 데려갈 것을 종용하고 있다고 말했습니다. 부쉬 대통령은 이미 많은 수감자들이 고국으로 송환됐다고 말했습니다.
미국은 알카에다나 탈레반 테러 조직과 연계혐의로 400명 이상을 관타나모 수용소에 구금하고 있습니다.
최근 관타나모 수용소를 방문했던 아프가니스탄의 한 관리는 14일, 그곳에 구금된 아프가니스탄인들 중 일부가 곧 고국으로 돌아가게 될 것이라고 말했습니다. 관타나모 수용소를 운영하는 미국 국방부는 보안에 대한 우려 때문에 수감자들의 본국 이송이 마무리 될 때까지 그 문제를 논의하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.

President Bush has promised that detainees at Guantanamo Bay who are not returned to their home countries will eventually be represented in a court of law.
He was responding to a reporter's question at the White House Wednesday. Mr. Bush said the State Department is encouraging the detainees' home countries to take their citizens back. He said many detainees have already been sent home.
The United States is holding more than 400 people at Guantanamo on suspicion of links to al-Qaida or the Taleban.
An Afghan official who visited the detention center recently said Wednesday that some Afghans held there will be going home very soon. The U.S. Defense Department, which operates the detention center, says because of security concerns it does not discuss the movement of detainees until the move is completed.
