이라크 전 지도자 사담 후세인과 공동 피고 7명의 반인륜적 범죄 혐의에 대한 재판이 제한된 피고측 증인들이 출두한 가운데 재개됐습니다.
30일 속개된 재판에서, 주심 판사는 피고인단이 매일 새로운 증인 명단을 내놓는다면 법원은 결코 심리를 끝낼 수가 없다고 말했습니다. 후세인은 즉각 이에 대해 지난해 10월 재판이 처음 시작된 이래 첫 5개월동안 주어졌던 검찰측 논고시간 만큼 변호인측에도 그만큼의 시간이 주어져야 한다고 주장했습니다.
피고측 증인들은 3주간의 휴정후 지난 5월 15일이래 법정에 출두해왔습니다. 이들 피고는 지난 1982년 두자이 마을에서 있었던 후세인 암살 시도후 이어졌던 148명의 시아파 주민 살해 사건에 대해 유죄가 인정되면 사형에 처하게 됩니다.

The trial of Saddam Hussein and seven co-defendants on charges of crimes against humanity has resumed with the judge demanding that the defense limit the number of witnesses.
At the start of today's (Tuesday's) session, the chief judge said the court would never be able to finish hearing testimony if the defense team comes up with a new list of witnesses every day.
Saddam immediately insisted that the defense be given as much time as the prosecution, which presented its case during the first five months of the trial that began in October.
Defense witnesses have been taking the stand since May 15, when the trial resumed after a three-week recess.
The defendants could face the death penalty if convicted of killing 148 Shi'ite Muslims in the village of Dujail following an assassination attempt on Saddam there in 1982.
