버마의 야당인 민주주의 전국연맹 지도자인 수지씨는 지난 16년 중 10년을 주로 가택연금 상태에서 지냈습니다. 감바리 특사는 군사정부 지도자들에게 민주주의 회복과 인권침해 중단을 촉구하기 위해 지난 18일 버마에 도착했습니다.

A senior United Nations envoy has met with Burma's detained opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. The visit is the first in more than two years by a high-level U.N. representative.
Burmese officials confirmed that U.N. political affairs envoy Ibrahim Gambari met with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate for about an hour today (Saturday) at a guest house in Rangoon. Details of the meeting were not immediately available.
Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of Burma's opposition National League for Democracy, has spent 10 of the last 16 years in detention, mostly under house arrest.
Gambari arrived in Burma on Thursday to press the ruling junta to restore democracy and cease human rights violations.
He also met today with Burma's top general, Senior General Than Shwe. Friday, Gambari met with members of the nation's opposition National League for Democracy (N.L.D.) at a government building in Rangoon.
Gambari is the first high-ranking U.N. official to be allowed into Burma in more than two years. The three-day visit ends today.
