키르기스스탄의 쿠르만베크 바키예프 대통령은, 미국 정부가 새로운 기지 사용료에 동의하지않을 경우 자국내의 미군 기지를 폐쇄하겠다고 위협하고 있습니다.
바키예프 대통령은 19일 기지 사용료에 관한 협상이 오는 6월 1일까지 완료되지않을 경우 키르기스스탄은 협정 종식을 고려할 권리를 보유하고있다며 이같이 위협했습니다.
바키예프 대통령은 미국이 지난 2001년 말 키르기스스탄에 세운 마나스 공군 기지의 임대료를 더 많이 지불하길 원하고 있습니다. 미국은 이 기지를 아프가니스탄에서의 군사 작전을 지원하는데 이용하고 있습니다.

Kyrgyzstan's president is threatening to shut down a U.S. military base in his country, if the U.S. government does not agree to new financial terms.
President Kurmanbek Bakiyev said today (Wednesday) that Kyrgyzstan reserves the right to consider ending the agreement if negotiations are not completed by June 1st.
Mr. Bakiyev wants the United States to pay more rent for use of the Manas air base, which was set up in Kyrgyzstan in late 2001. The United States is using the base to support military operations in Afghanistan.
If Kyrgyzstan chooses to expel the U.S. forces, it would be the second U.S. military base in recent years to be closed down in Central Asia.
Uzbek authorities made American troops leave last year after Washington criticized its bloody crackdown on demonstrations in the eastern town of Andijan.
