일본의 2차 세계대전 전범들은 도쿄의 신사에 안치되지 않았어야 했다고 일본 제1 야당인 민주당의 오자와 이치로 새 당수가 말했습니다.
오자와 당수는 일본 NHK 방송과의 회견에서 야스쿠니 신사는 유죄가 확정된 전범이 아닌 일본의 전몰자들을 기리기 위해 만들어진 것이라고 말했습니다. 야스쿠니 신사는 1978년 이래 2차대전 이후 처형된 7명의 고위급 전범을 추모해 왔습니다.
고이즈미 총리는 지난 2001년 총리 취임 이래 정기적으로 야스쿠니 신사를 참배했으며 이 때문에 신사를 일본의 군국주의 과거에 대한 미화로 여기는 중국과 한국을 분노하게 하고 있습니다.
오자와 당수는 야스쿠니 신사는 고이즈미 총리가 이웃국가들로 부터 비판받지 않고 참배할 수 있도록 원래 형태로 복구돼야 한다고 말했습니다.

Japan's new opposition leader Ichiro Ozawa says Japanese war criminals should not have been enshrined at a controversial war memorial in Tokyo.
Ozawa told Japan's public broadcaster N.H.K. the Yasukuni war shrine was meant to honor Japan's war dead, not convicted World War Two criminals. Since 1978, the site has honored seven top-ranking Japanese war criminals who were executed after the conflict.
Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro has made regular pilgrimages to Yasukuni since taking office in 2001, angering China and South Korea, which view the shrine as glorifying Japan's military past. Mr. Koizumi says he visits the shrine to pray for peace.
Ozawa says Yasukuni should be restored to its original form, so that Mr. Koizumi can pray at the shrine without being criticized by Japan's neighbors.
