22개 회원국을 거느린 아랍연맹 정상회담이 28일 수단에서 개막됐습니다. 여러 주요 핵심 지도자들이 불참한 가운데 하루툼에서 열리는 이 정상회담에는 호스니 무바라크 이집트 대통령과 압둘라 사우디 아라비아 국왕, 압둘라 요르단 국왕등 최소한 9개국 아랍 지도자들이 참석하지 않고 있습니다.
이번 정상회담은 이라크 문제와 회교 급진 단체 하마스가 이끄는 팔레스타인 새정부 문제에 촛점을 둘 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.
아랍 연맹은 또한 최근 팔레스타인 정부에 매달 5천만달러를 지원하기로 한 다짐을 재확인한 바 있습니다.

The 22-member Arab League opened its summit in Sudan today (Tuesday) with several key leaders staying away.
At least nine Arab leaders, including Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah and Jordan's King Abdullah, are not attending the summit in Khartoum.
The meeting is expected to focus on the situation in Iraq and a new Palestinian government led by the Islamic militant group Hamas. The Arab League also has recently renewed its pledge to send 50 million dollars a month to the Palestinian government.
Human-rights groups want the Arab League to pressure Sudan to accept deployment of U.N. troops in its war-torn Darfur region.
News reports from Khartoum say the summit is likely to last one day instead of two, as originally scheduled.
