부쉬 대통령은 최근 이라크에서 벌어지고 있는 종파간 폭력사태에 대해 우려하고 그러나 이라크인들은 현재 소요사태에서 한발 물러섰다고 말했습니다.
부쉬 대통령은 또 비록 완전하지는 않지만 이라크 보안대의 폭력사태에 대한 대응은 고무적이라고 말했습니다. 이라크에서는 지난달 22일 사마라의 시아파 사원이 공격을 받은 직후 종파간 폭력사태가 크게 증가했습니다.
부쉬 대통령은 이라크 내 18개 주 가운데 16개 주는 비교적 평온한 상태라면서 단합된 이라크 정부가 가능한 한 빨리 들어서는 것이 중요하다고 말했습니다. 이와 관련해 자랄 탈라바니 이라크 대통령은 새 의회가 3월19일 첫 회기를 열도록 하는 명령을 발표했습니다. 한편 사마라에서는 10일 두 건의 차량폭탄 사고가 발생해 수니파 이슬람 사원의 성직자 한 명 등 3명이 사망했습니다.

President Bush has expressed concern about the recent sectarian violence in Iraq, but says the Iraqi people have taken a "step back" from the unrest. Mr. Bush said in Washington today (Friday) that he was pleased with the response of the Iraqi security forces, although it was not perfect. Sectarian violence surged after the February 22nd bombing of a Shi'ite shrine in Samarra.
In Samarra today, two car bombs killed three people, including an imam at a Sunni Muslim mosque. But Mr. Bush said 16 of Iraq's 18 provinces have relative calm. He also stressed the importance of having an Iraqi unity government operational as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has issued a decree that orders the new parliament to hold its first session on March 19th. In other news, Iraqi police say at least seven people were killed in a suicide truck bombing at a checkpoint in Fallujah; while in the northern city of Tikrit, at least one policeman was killed and two others wounded in two roadside bomb blasts.
