미국 여자 피겨 스케이트 대표인 미쉘 콴 선수가 부상 때문에 이탈리아 토리노 동계 올림픽 출전을 포기했습니다.
콴 선수는 12일, 그같은 결정은 지금까지 내린 결정 중 가장 어려운 것이었다고 말했습니다. 콴 선수는 11일 연습 도중 3회전 점프를 시도하다가 넘어지면서 엉덩이 근육을 다쳤습니다.
올해 25살인 콴 선수는 그동안 미국 선수권 대회에서 9번 우승하고, 세계 선수권 대회에서도 5번 우승했지만, 올림픽에서는 금메달을 따지 못한 채 은메달과 동메달을 각각 한 개씩 획득했습니다.

American figure skater Michelle Kwan has pulled out of the Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy, due to groin and hip muscle injuries.
She said early today (Sunday) the decision was the most difficult she has ever had to make. Kwan injured her hip muscle when she fell hard on the ice while trying to do a triple jump during practice Saturday.
The 25-year-old California native received a bye onto the U.S. Olympic team after missing the U.S. championships because of the groin injury.
Kwan is one of the most decorated athletes in sports with five world championships, nine U.S. titles, and silver and bronze Olympic medals. But she has never won an Olympic gold medal.
