이란 외무부는, 핵 확산 금지 조약,NPT에서 탈퇴하겠다는 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 대통령의 위협을 대수롭지않은 것으로 평가 절하하고 있습니다.
하미드 레자 아세피 외무부 대변인은, 이란에 대한 국제 사회의 핵 계획 종식 압력을 끝내기위해 이란을 NPT에서 탈퇴시킬 지도 모른다는 아흐마디네자드 대통령의 위협이 있은 지 하루 만인 12일, 이란은 이 조약의 규정을 준수할 결의로 있다고 말했습니다. 그러나, 이 대변인은 NPT 조약을 정치적 수단으로 삼는 것은 받아들일수없다고 덧붙였습니다.
미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무 장관은, NPT 탈퇴가 이란의 고립을 더욱 심화시키게될것이라고 말하고있습니다. 라이스 국무 장관은 12일 유엔 안전 보장 이사회 상임 이사국 모두를 비롯한 국가들이 이란의 핵 무기 개발을 저지하려 결의하는 연대를 구축하고 있다고 말했습니다.
라이스 국무 장관은 또, 미국이 외교적인 접근책에 몰두하고있으나, 이란을 다루어야하게될 경우 군사 행동등 어떠한 선택 방안도 논의에서 배제되지 않고 있다고 말했습니다.

Iran's Foreign Ministry is downplaying a threat by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to pull out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
A spokesman (Hamid Reza Asefi) says Iran is committed to the provisions of the treaty, but cannot accept its use as a political tool. On Saturday, Mr. Ahmadinejad said he might pull out of the treaty to end growing international pressure on Iran to end its nuclear program.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says such a move would further deepen Iran's isolation. Rice said today (Sunday) there is a coalition of countries, including all members of the U.N. Security Council, determined to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
She added the U.S. is dedicated to a diplomatic approach but has taken no options off the table when it comes to dealing with Iran, including military action.
