레바논에서, 회교 창시자인 예언자, 마호메트를 풍자한 정치 만화의 신문 게재에 항의해 시위자들이 베이루트 주재 덴마크 영사관이 들어있는 건물에 불을 질렀습니다.
레바논 보안군은 최루탄과 물대포를 발사해 돌을 던지며 시위를 벌이던 시위자들을 해산시켰습니다. 이 같은 시위는 시리아에서 시위자들이 다마스커스 주재 덴마크 및 노르웨이 대사관들을 불태운지 하루만에 벌어진 것입니다.
회교 및 아랍 지도자들은 시위자들에게 폭력을 금할 것을 촉구했으며 아프가니스탄의 하미드 카르자이 대통령은 회교도들에게 용서할 것을 촉구했습니다.
한편 바그다드에서 이라크 교통부는 마호메트 풍자 정치 만화 게재를 이유로 들면서 이라크와 덴마크 회사들간 모든 계약을 취소할 것이며 덴마크로부터의 어떠한 재건 자금 지원도 거부할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
당초 지난 해 9월 덴마크 신문들에 등장했던 12장의 정치 풍자 만화는 최근 유럽의 여러 신문들에 다시 게재됐습니다. 이슬람 교는 창시자의 초상을 그리는 것을 금기시 하고 있습니다.

Demonstrators in Lebanon have set fire to the building housing the Danish consulate in Beirut in that latest protest over political cartoons depicting the image of the Prophet Mohammed.
Lebanese security forces fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the stone-throwing demonstrators.
The protests come one day after Syrian demonstrators burned the Danish and Norwegian embassies in Damascus.
Muslim and Arab leaders are calling for demonstrators to refrain from violence. Afghan President Hamid Karzai urged Muslims to forgive.
In Baghdad, Iraq's transport ministry said it is canceling all its contracts with Danish companies and will reject any offers of Danish reconstruction money because of the cartoons.
The 12 cartoons fist appeared in a Danish newspaper in September but were recently reprinted across Europe. Islam prohibits any depiction of prophets.
