International concerns about a disruption in oil supplies have pushed crude oil prices up more than one-dollar a barrel, approaching the record set last year when Hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. Gulf Coast. Prices for a barrel of oil for future delivery hit 67-dollars and 30-cents in mid-day trading in New York today (Friday).

Analysts say the rally is due to political unrest in Nigeria and the standoff over Iran's nuclear program. The International Atomic Energy Agency is set to meet next Thursday to discuss Iran's nuclear ambitions, as the U.S., France and Britain seek to refer Tehran to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions.

The jump in prices comes days before OPEC meets in Vienna (Tuesday) to discuss cutting production quotas, as Iran, the cartel's second largest producer, has suggested. But Saudi Arabia's Oil Minister (Ali al-Naimi) says the 11-nation group will likely keep current production levels unchanged.
