The lawyer for Chinese journalist Li Changqing says his client has been sentenced to three years in prison on charges of spreading false and alarmist information.
The Gulou District Court in the city of Fuzhou sentenced Li on Tuesday for leaking information about a dengue fever outbreak to an overseas Web site.
Li's lawyer, Mo Shaoping, says his client is the victim of what he called factors outside the law, hinting that the verdict may be punishment for having supported an imprisoned anti-corruption crusader.
