Media reports say North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is touring the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
News agencies in South Korea and Japan are reporting a man resembling Mr. Kim was seen leaving a luxury hotel in Shenzhen today (Sunday) in a black car. Security was tight around the (Wuzhou Guest House) hotel, but the staff would not confirm Mr. Kim was staying there.
The reports say the North Korean leader arrived in Shenzhen Saturday from Guangzhou, the capital of China's Guangdong province. Shenzhen - a technology center bordering Hong Kong - was declared a special economic zone in 1980.
Mr. Kim is said to be visiting high-tech companies and port facilities in southern China to learn about the region's economic reforms. Neither Beijing nor Pyongyang has confirmed the visit.
