시리아의 바샤르 알-아싸드 대통령이 라피크 하리리 전 레바논 총리 암살 사건에 대한 유엔 조사에 관해 논의하기 위해 사우디 아라비아와 이집트를 잠시 방문했습니다.
아싸드 대통령은 먼저 제다에서 사우디의 압둘라 국왕과 회담했습니다. 사우디 관계관들은 압둘라 국왕이 지역 안보를 위해 시리아와 레바논간 보다 강력한 관계를 촉구했다고 전했습니다.
아싸드 대통령은 그후 이집트의 휴양지 샤름 엘-세이크를 방문해 호스니 무바락 이집트 대통령과도 회담했습니다.
시리아는 하리리 전 총리 암살 사건에 어떠한 역할도 담당하지 않았다고 주장해왔으며 아싸드 대통령은 유엔 조사관들이 자신에게 하리리 암살 사건과 관련해 면담을 요청할 어떠한 법적 근거도 없다고 말하고 있습니다.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has made quick trips to Saudi Arabia and Egypt to discuss the U.N. investigation into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Mr. Assad first stopped in Jeddah for talks with Saudi King Abdullah. Saudi officials say the king called for stronger relations between Syria and Lebanon in the name of regional security.
Mr. Assad then traveled to the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for talks with President Hosni Mubarak.
Syria has denied any role in last year's killing of Mr. Hariri. And Mr. Assad says there is no legal basis for United Nations investigators to interview him about Mr. Hariri's assassination.
