태국에서는 25일, 남아시아 지진 해일 쓰나미 참사 1주년 추모식 거행됐습니다.
인도양 지역 주민들과 생존자들은 물론 멀리 노르웨이와 스웨덴에서도 쓰나미로 가족과 형제들을 잃은 사람들이 이 추모식에 참석했습니다. 당시 희생자들 가운데 많은 사람들은 여러 인도양 해안 휴양지에서 휴가를 즐기던 서구인들이었습니다.
인도네시아의 수실로 유도요노 대통령은 약 17만명이 사망한 것으로 알려진 반다 아체의 집단 매장지에서 거행된 추모식에 참석했습니다. 스리랑카와 인도, 그리고 인도양의 다른 나라와 유럽 나라들에서도 추모식이 열렸습니다.
지난 해 12월 26일, 인도네시아 수마트라 섬 해안에서 발생한 강력한 지진으로 인해 촉발된 지진 해일 쓰나미로 23만명이 사망하고 약 2백만명의 이재민이 발생한 것으로 추산되고 있습니다.

People from the Indian Ocean region and elsewhere who lost friends and family in last year's huge earthquake and tsunami are joining survivors in memorials to mark Monday's one-year anniversary of the tragedy.
Visitors from as far away as Norway and Sweden attended memorial services in Thailand today (Sunday) for those killed in the December 26th disaster. Many of the victims were Western tourists on vacation at several oceanfront resorts.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono joins tens of thousands of mourners today at mass graves in Banda Aceh, where nearly 170-thousand people are known to have been killed.
A moment of silence will be held in Aceh and throughout the region to mark the exact time the tsunami's first waves struck.
Other ceremonies take place in hard-hit Sri Lanka and India, as well as other countries in the Indian Ocean region.
The tsunami, triggered by a massive earthquake off Sumatra island, killed an estimate 230-thousand people and left about two-million people homeless.
