미국 상원은 4,500억 달러 규모의 내년도 국방예산을 승인했습니다. 그러나, 국방 예산안에 포함돼 있던, 알래스카 야생 보호 구역에서 유전 개발을 허용하는 조항은 삭제됐습니다.
상원은 21일 미군의 이라크와 아프가니스탄 작전을 위한 500억 달러가 포함된 2006년도 국방 예산안을 반대 없이 찬성 93표로 통과시켰습니다.
내년도 국방예산에는 또한 허리케인 카트리나로 큰 피해가 발생한 미국 남부 걸프 해안의 재건 비용도 포함돼 있습니다.
상원을 통과한 국방예산은 하원으로 넘겨 졌습니다.

The U.S. Senate has passed a 450-billion-dollar defense spending bill -- but only after defeat of a measure to allow oil exploration in the Alaska wildlife refuge.
The Senate voted 93-to-zero Wednesday on the defense bill, which includes 50-billion dollars for U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also includes money for reconstruction of parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
The House of Representatives must now act on the bill.
Earlier Wednesday, Senate Democrats led efforts to strip the bill of a provision to drill oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
