일본은 희망했던 노무현 한국 대통령의 연내 일본 방문이 이루어지지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다. 일본 외무성의 야치 쇼타로 차관은 6개월마다 이루어져 온 노무현 대통령의 일본 방문을 준비할 시간이 남지 않았다고 밝혔습니다.
노무현 대통령과 일본의 고이즈미 준이치로 총리는 1년에 두 번씩 정상회담을 갖기로 했으며 지난 6월 고이즈미 총리가 서울을 방문했기 때문에 연말 이전에 노 대통령이 일본을 방문할 차례였습니다.
그러나 고이즈미 총리가 논란의 야스쿠니 신사를 계속 참배함으로써 제2차 세계대정중 일본침략의 피해국들인 한국과 중국 등 아시아 국가들에서 격렬한 비난이 일었습니다.
노 대통령과 고이즈미 총리는 지난 달 에이펙 정상회의때 만났으나 이는 주최국인 한국의 대통령으로서 의례적인 만남이었던 것으로 보도됐습니다.

Japan says a hoped-for visit from South Korean president Roh Moo-hyun will not take place this year.
Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi says there is no time left to arrange the customary semi-annual summit with Mr. Roh.
Mr. Roh and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi try to hold twice-a year summits - the most recent took place in Seoul in June.
However, Mr. Koizumi's repeated visits to the controversial Yasukuni shrine have drawn heavy criticism from South Korea, China and other Asian nations that suffered Japanese occupation before the end of World War Two.
Mr. Roh met Mr. Koizumi at the Asia-Pacific summit in South Korea last month, but said he was only being courteous as the host of the conference.
