석유수출국기구 (오펙) 회원국들은 전세계의 높은 에너지 수요를 충족시키기 위해 산유량을 현재 수준으로 유지할 것이라고 말했습니다.
이 기구의 세이크 아메드 알-파헤드 알- 사바(쿠웨이트) 의장은 회원국들이 12일 유가가 여전히 높은 상황에서 현재의 하루 3천여만 배럴 원유 생산량은 적절한 것이라는데 합의했다고 밝혔습니다.
오펙 회원국 대표들은 쿠웨이트에서 열리는 회의에 참석하고 있으며, 1월 말이나 2월 초 다시 만나 생산량 조정 문제를 협의할 예정입니다. 오펙 국가들은 에너지 가격의 급속한 앙등을 낮추기 위해 지난 9월 하루 생산량을 2천 800만 배럴에서 2백만 배럴 더 늘리기로 합의했었습니다.

Members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries say they will continue pumping oil at current levels to satisfy high demand around the world.
OPEC's president (Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahd al-Sabah of Kuwait) says the 11-nation cartel decided today (Monday) that its current high production level -- more than 30 million barrels of crude oil per day -- is justified because the price of oil "is still high."
Representatives of the oil-exporting countries are meeting throughout the day today in Kuwait City, but they already have set another round of talks to review production levels -- probably in late January or early February.
The OPEC nations agreed in September to expand their daily output (of 28 million barrels by two million barrels), in an attempt to slow the steep rise in energy prices.
