독일 의회는 보수성향의 앙겔라 메르켈씨를 독일의 첫 여성 총리로 선출했습니다.
메르켈씨는 22일 전체의원 614명 가운데 397명의 지지를 얻었 2차 세계대전 이후 8번째 독일 총리에 취임하게 됐습니다.
메르켈씨는 7년 간 재임하고 물러나는 게르하르트 쉬뢰더 총리의 중도좌파 성향 사민당이 참여하는 연립정부의 대표를 맡게 됩니다.
메르켈 신임 총리의 최대 과제는 침체에 빠진 경제를 회복하는 일이며 그가 이끄는 새 정부는 예산적자를 줄이기 위해 지출을 삭감하고 세금을 인상할 것으로 전망됩니다.

The German parliament has elected conservative Angela as the country's first female chancellor. Ms. Merkel received 397 votes from the 614-seat parliament today (Tuesday).
She will be Germany's eighth chancellor since the end of World War Two. Ms. Merkel will head a coalition government that includes the center-left Social Democrats of outgoing Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, who is leaving after more than seven years in office.
Ms. Merkel's Christian Democratic Union and the Social Democrats formed a so-called "Grand Coalition" after neither won a majority in September's general election. As chancellor, Ms. Merkel's biggest task will be to restore Germany's sluggish economy. Her government is expected to implement spending cuts and tax increases to reduce the budget deficit.
