Palestinians are commemorating the first anniversary of the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas led a ceremony today (Friday) attended by diplomats and top officials from major Palestinian factions. Mr. Abbas, along with Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia, laid the foundation stone of a new Arafat museum-mosque-mausoleum complex at the Palestinian Authority headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah.
A rally planned for the city center later Friday was expected to draw Palestinians from across the occupied West Bank. Prime Minister Qureia has said the official investigation into Mr. Arafat's death failed to determine what killed him.
