The U.S. embassy in Beijing says Chinese police have warned that Islamic extremists may be planning attacks at four- and five-star hotels in China next week.
In a statement issued today (Wednesday), the U.S. embassy said Chinese authorities have assured the embassy that they are taking appropriate security measures and are investigating the possible threat. The embassy warned that American citizens visiting Chinese hotels should exercise caution.
The statement did not say if the extremists to which Chinese authorities referred were from China or abroad. There has been no confirmation from Chinese officials.
