수십만명의 아프리카계 미국인들이 10년전의 [100만인 대행진]을 기념하기 위해 15일 워싱턴에 모여 현재 아프리카계 미국인들이 당면하고 있는 여러 문제들에 대한 개선을 촉구했습니다.
이날 오전 연사로 나선 허리케인 카트리나의 한 생존자는 흑인들이 고향 뉴올리언스로 돌아가게 해줄 것을 촉구했습니다.
또 다른 연사들은 뉴올리언스가 침수된 후에 정부의 느린 대응은 흑인들에 대한 편견을 보여주는 것이라고 질타했습니다.
아프리카 감리교감독교회의 바슈티 메켄지 감독은 모든 흑인들이 자신들을 “미국의 난민들”로 생각하고 있다고 말했습니다. 미국의 회교 지도자 루이스 파라칸과 인권운동가인 제시 잭슨 목사, 인권운동가 도로시 하이트도 연사로 참가했습니다.

Thousands of African-Americans have gathered in Washington today (Saturday) to mark the 10th anniversary of the "Million Man March," and to focus on problems faced by African Americans and the country's poor. Among the speakers early in the day was a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, who called for black people to return to New Orleans.
Other speakers picked up on the topic, saying slow government response after the city flooded showed prejudice against blacks. Bishop Vashti McKenzie of the African Methodist Episcopal Church said all blacks are viewed as "America's refugees." Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, activist and minister Jesse Jackson and civil rights icon Dorothy Height are among those speaking today.
The "Million Man March" 10 years ago was aimed at empowering and uniting America's black men from all walks of life. That event was attended by hundreds of thousands of people in one of the largest gatherings ever in Washington.
