Samsung Electronics has agreed to pay a 300-million-dollar fine to settle charges it was part of a conspiracy to fix prices of digital memory chips today (Thursday).
South Korean-based Samsung is the world's largest producer of "dynamic random access memory" chips that are used in computers, phones and other electronic gadgets.
A news report (by AP) says it is the second largest criminal anti-trust fine in history.
The U.S. Justice Department says it has already secured guilty pleas from two other chip makers, and has levied hundreds of millions of dollars in fines.
The "D-RAM" market is worth seven-point-seven billion dollars in the United States.
