유럽인들의 미국에 대한 여론은 부쉬 대통령의 개선노력에도 불구하고 거의 변화가 없는 것으로 나타났습니다.
이것은 최근 유럽 9개국과 미국 그리고 터키에서 실시된 연례 유럽인 여론조사 ‘Transatlantic Trends’에서 밝혀진 것으로 반미감정의 증가도 없었습니다.
이번 여론조사에 밝혀진 중요한 내용 가운데 하나는 개인적으로 국제테러의 영향을 받을 것이라고 응답한 미국인들이 71퍼센트로, 53퍼센트를 기록한 유럽인들보다 더 많았다는 사실입니다.
또한 이 여론조사에서 미국인들과 유럽인들은 이란의 핵무기 개발 대응방안에 대해 공감대가 없는 것으로 나타났습니다.
올해의 여론조사는 런던 폭파 사건과 태풍 카트리나 발생 이전인 5월 30일과 6월 17일 사이에 에 실시된 것입니다. 이 조사는 미국의 비 당파적 연국기관인 독일 마샬 기금과 이탈리아 튤린 소재 비 영리 기관인 캄파니아 디산 파올로가 실시한 것이었습니다.

An annual survey finds little change in European public opinion toward the United States, despite President Bush's efforts to improve relations.
At the same time, the Transatlantic Trends poll -- conducted in nine European countries, the United States and Turkey -- found no evidence of increased anti-Americanism.
Among its key findings, the survey found more Americans than Europeans think they will be personally affected by international terrorism (71 to 53 percent).
It also found Americans and Europeans show no consensus on options for dealing with the possibility that Iran may develop nuclear weapons.
This year's poll was conducted before the London bombings and Hurricane Katrina (between May 30th and June 17th). It is funded by a non-partisan American institution (the German Marshall Fund) and a nonprofit research center in Turin, Italy (Compagnia di San Paolo).
