1일의 정식 통치 40주년을 경축하기위해, 중국군은 이날, 망명중인 달라이 라마의 전 자택인 “포탈라 궁” 앞에서 국기 게양식을 가졌습니다.
중국군은, 지난 1950년 티베트를 점령했으며, 1959년 티베트의 정신적 지도자, 달라이 라마의 대 중국 봉기를 진압한 뒤 1965년 9월 1일 티베트를 자치구로 설정해 정식 통치에 들어갔습니다.
중국 관영 인민일보는 1일, 사설에서 지난 40년동안 이룩한 티베트의 경제성장은 중국의 통치하에서만 가능했다고 주장했습니다.

China has marked the 40th anniversary of its formal rule over Tibet with celebrations touting its achievements in the region.
To celebrate today's (Thursday's) anniversary, Chinese soldiers conducted a flag-raising ceremony in front of the Potala Palace, the former home of Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
Chinese troops occupied Tibet in 1950. The Dalai Lama has been struggling to gain some form of autonomy for his homeland since a failed anti-China uprising in 1959. The Tibet Autonomous Region was established on September 1, 1965.
An editorial published in China's official People's Daily newspaper Thursday said the economic performance of Tibet during the past four decades was possible only under Chinese rule.
