일본 최대의 지하 폭력 조직, 야마구치구미가 16년 만에 새 두목을 맞았습니다.
27일 사복 경찰들이 서부 도시 고베에 있는 조직의 총본부 주변을 순찰하는 가운데, 2인자인 시노다 켄이치로가 두목으로 공식 취임했다고 교토 통신이 보도했습니다.
시노다는 지난 달 사임한 와타나베 요시노리의 뒤를 이어 두목에 올랐습니다. 교토 통신은 이날 행사에 일본 전역의 연계 조직 지도자와 조직원 약 100명이 참석했다고 전했습니다.
야쿠자로 불리는 일본 조직 폭력배들은 금품 갈취와 도박, 매춘, 정치 헌금, 그리고 총기와 마약 거래 등으로 연간 수십억 달러의 수익을 거두고 있습니다.
지난 10여년 동안 일본 경찰의 일제 단속에도 불구하고 일본의 야쿠자 수는 날로 증가하고 있으며 야마구치구미의 조직원 만도 3만 9천 여 명에 달합니다.

Japan's largest underworld gang, the Yamaguchi-gumi, has formally appointed a new chief, marking the first change in power in 16 years.
Kyodo news service says plainclothes police patrolled outside the gang's headquarters in the western city of Kobe today (Saturday) as Kenichi Shinoda (63), the gang's number two, took over in a formal ceremony. Hereplaces Yoshinori Watanabe, who stepped down last month.
Kyodo said the ceremony was attended by about 100 leaders and members of affiliated groups nationwide.
Japanese gangsters, commonly called the yakuza, bring in billions of dollars annually from extortion, gambling,the sex industry, guns, drugs and kickback schemes.
Despite more than a decade of police crackdowns, Japan's gangsters have been growing in numbers. The Yamaguchi-gumi alone has more than 39,000 members.
