미국이 지원하고 11개 아프리카 국가들이 참여하는 아프리카 재난관리소가 15일 케냐에 개설됐습니다.
아프리카 국가와 미국관리들은 케냐의 수도 나이로비에서 거행된 이른바 ‘황금창’ 작전의 본부인 이 재난관리소의 개관행사에 참석했습니다. 이 재난관리소는 주로 동아프리카 국가들이 국가적 재난과 테러 공격에 보다 효과적으로 대처할 수 있도록 돕는 일을 수행하게 됩니다.
케냐의 무디 어워리 부통령은 15일 개관기념연설에서 이 재난 관리소는 이 지역 안전도모에 필수적이라고 말했습니다.

Eleven African nations have opened a U.S.-funded disaster management center in Kenya.
African and U.S. government officials were on hand for today's (Monday's) opening of the Nairobi-based headquarters of operation "Golden Spear." The center aims to help the mainly East African countries deal with natural disasters and terrorist attacks more effectively.
In a speech marking the opening, Kenyan Vice President Moody Awori said programs like Golden Spear are necessary to give the region a safety net. He said recent disasters like last year's devastating tsunami or the 1998 terror attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania show that major calamities often exceed the capabilities of local and national organizations.
Launched five years ago, the U.S.-backed program is designed to help the countries share information on emergency supplies of food and medicine, and train rescue authorities to deal with large- scale emergencies.
