경찰은 이들 체포자 가운데 83명은 이민자들이며, 52명은 추방명령을 받았다고 말했습니다. 경찰은 이들이 1. 5 킬로그램의 폭발물을 갖고 있었다고 말했습니다. 런던 폭탄공격이 자기네 소행이라고 주장하는 한 무장단체는 이라크에서 미국 주도의 작전을 지원하고 있는 이탈리아가 다음 공격 목표가 될 것이라고 위협한 바 있습니다.
이탈리아는 현재 이라크에 3,000명의 병력을 파견하고 있지만, 오는 9월에 부분적인 철수를 할 것이라고 발표한 바 있습니다. 실비오 베르루스코니 총리는 이탈리아 군의 철수는 이미 계획되었던 것으로 이것이 테러분자들의 위협 때문은 아니라고 말했습니다.

Italian police have conducted a massive anti-terrorism sweep, arresting 142 people in a two-day security operation. Prompted by the bombing in London and threats of terrorist attacks against Italy, officers fanned out around Milan, where previous anti-terrorism efforts have uncovered various cells.
Police say among those arrested, 83 are immigrants and 52 face deportation orders. They also say they found one-and-a-half kilograms of explosives. A group claiming responsibility for the London bombings has threatened to target Italy as well because of the country's support of the U.S.-led operation in Iraq.
Italy has an estimated three-thousand troops in Iraq, but has announced plans to begin a partial withdrawal in September. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi says the pull-out was already planned and is not a result of pressure from the threat.
French officials also sent additional troops to sensitive sites around the country, including train stations and airports. European Union justice and interior ministers will meet in Brussels next Wednesday to discuss security measures
