이집트의 호스니 무바라크 대통령은 7일 알 카에다에 연계된 이라크 저항 분자들이 이하브 알 셰리프 대사를 처형했다고 주장한지 수시간 뒤 대사의 사망을 확인했습니다.
이집트 국영 통신이 보도한 성명에서 무바라크 대통령은 대사의 살인자들을 테러 분자라고 부르고, 이러한 행위가 이라크와 그 국민에 대한 이집트 정부의 확고한 지지를 가로막지는 못할것이라고 역설했습니다.
이 성명은 이집트 당국이 대사의 피살을 독자적으로 확인했는지는 언급하지않았습니다. 이보다 몇시간 앞서, 이라크 저항 분자들은, 지난 2일 바그다드에서 납치한 알 셰리프 대사를 처형했다는 메시지를 인터넷에 게재했습니다.
한편 이라크 당국은 7일 바그다드 남쪽에서 두건의 차량 폭탄 공격으로 적어도 13명이 살해됐다고 밝혔습니다. 그리고 모술에서 박격포 공격으로 이라크인 3명이 숨졌습니다.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has confirmed the death of Egypt's ambassador to Iraq, hours after al-Qaida-linked insurgents claimed to have executed the kidnapped diplomat.
A Mubarak statement carried by the Egyptian state news agency called Ambassador Ihab al-Sherif's killers terrorists. The statement said the killing will not deter Cairo in its firm support for Iraq and its people.
Today's (Thursday's) statement did not say whether Egyptian authorities had independent confirmation of the killing. Hours earlier, insurgents posted an Internet message saying they had killed Mr. al-Sherif, who was kidnapped Saturday in Baghdad.
On Wednesday, insurgents said they had sentenced the diplomat to death as an "apostate" whose government supported the United States and the Iraqi government.
Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities say at least 13 people have been killed in twin car bombings south of Baghdad.
Three other Iraqis were killed by mortar fire in Mosul.
