죠지 부쉬 미국 대통령은 대량살상무기 확산에 관련된 혐의가 있는 외국의 여덟 개 회사 재산을 동결시킬 수 있는 권한을 승인했습니다.
29일 미국 대통령 행정명령으로 발표된 재산동결권 승인과 관련해 대량살상무기를 획득하려는 혐의가 있는 나라들은 지목되지 않았습니다.
그러나 대통령 행정명령 부속 시행령 안에는 이란의 네 개 회사, 북한의 여덟 개 회사 그리고 시리아 회사 한 곳 등이 지목됐습니다.
미국 백악관은 이 대통령 행정명령의 목적은 금융 및 다른 종류의 무기확산 조직망을 차단함으로써 생물무기, 화학무기, 핵무기 등 대량살상무기의 밀거래를 방지하는데 있다고 밝혔습니다.

President Bush has given U.S. authorities the power to freeze the assets of eight foreign companies allegedly involved in the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
An executive order issued today (Wednesday) did not accuse any country of pursuing such weapons. But an annex to the decree listed four companies from Iran, three from North Korea and one from Syria.
A White House fact sheet says the president's goal is to fight the trafficking of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons by cutting off financing and other kinds of support for proliferation networks.
The order implements a recommendation made in March by a presidential panel on the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
