미국의 크리스 포드 IAEA 대표는 16일, IAEA 정기회의에서 미국 행정부로선 외교적 기회를 주려고 한다면서 그러기 위해서는 북한이 아무 조건없이 6자회담에 복귀하고 핵무기 추구를 포기해야 한다고 말하고 그렇지 않으면 미국은 다른 선택안들에 관해 동맹국들과 논의하게 될 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 크리스 포드 대표는 그러나 외교 이외의 다른 선택안들에 관해서는 따로 언급하지 않았습니다.

A U.S. official says the Bush administration will consider options other than diplomacy unless North Korea returns to talks aimed at ending its nuclear weapons program.
Speaking in Vienna today (Thursday), Chris Ford with the U.S. Bureau of Verification and Compliance said Washington wants diplomacy to be given a chance to work.
But he said that for this to happen, North Korea must return to six-party negotiations without preconditions, and abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
He said that otherwise, the United States will have to consult with allies about other options.
Mr. Ford, who was addressing a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency, did not specify what the other options might be.
North Korea has refused to return to six-party talks (involving the United States, Russia, Japan, China and South Korea) for nearly a year, citing what it calls "hostile" U.S. policies.
