마흐무드 압바스 팔레스타인 자치수반은 내달 17일로 예정됐던 팔레스타인 국회의원 선거를 연기했습니다.
압바스 수반은 분쟁을 해결하기 위한 노력으로 새로운 선거날짜는 국회와 야당 지도자들고 협의를 거쳐 결정될 것이라고 말했습니다.
이에 대해 회교 과격단체 하마스는 압바스 수반의 총선거 연기 결정이 그 동안의 합의들을 위반하는 것이라고 비난하면서 총선 연기를 거부했습니다.
그러나 하마스는 만약 총선거가 연기될 경우 이스라엘과의 휴전 협약을 파기하겠다고 한 앞서의 위협은 행동으로 옮기지 않고 있습니다.
하마스는 그동안 팔레스타인-이스라엘 정상이 지난 2월 합의한 휴전안을 받아들인 것은 7월 17일 총선거가 실시된다는 전제가 있었다며 총선일이 바뀌면 하마스의 휴전선언도 취소될 것이라고 경고했었습니다.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has delayed next month's parliamentary elections amid a dispute over voting procedures.
Mr. Abbas said today (Saturday) a new date will be set after talks among lawmakers and party leaders in efforts to resolve the dispute.
The radical Islamic group Hamas rejected the delay, accusing Mr. Abbas of violating the terms of a ceasefire deal.
However, the militants have not yet acted on their earlier threat to pull out of the truce with Israel if the vote is postponed.
Meantime, gunmen briefly detained a Palestinian diplomat in southern Gaza to protest age limits on hiring new police officers.
The men from a Fatah-affiliated militant group said they had been refused jobs because they were too old.
