정부군과 무장자들간의 충돌사태로 정부군 군인 여러 명이 살해된 것으로 알려졌습니다. 우즈베키스탄 정부군은 안디잔시의 일부를 봉쇄했으며 시민들의 대부분이 집안에서 나오지 않고 있는 가운데 대체로 평온이 유지되고 있습니다.
이번 충돌사태에서 우즈베키스탄군의 시위자들에 대한 발포로 수 백 명이 사망한 것으로 목격자들은 전하고 있으나 이슬람 카리모프 대통령은 사망한 사람은 소수에 불과하다고 밝히고 있습니다.
한편 영국의 잭 스트로우 외무장관은 우즈베키스탄 안디욘시에서 벌어진 시위군중에 대한 우즈베키스탄 정부의 진압을 비난했습니다. 스트로우 장관은 15일, BBC 방송과의 인터뷰에서 우즈베키스탄에서 명백한 인권침해 사태가 벌어지고 있다고 지적하고 우즈베키스탄은 외국의 업저버들과 국제적십자 같은 국제기관들이 상황을 파악할 수 있도록 허용하라고 촉구했습니다. 그러나 우즈베키스탄 외무부는 잭 스트로우 영국 외무장관이 정보를 잘못 알고 있다며 스트로우 장관의 촉구를 일축했습니다.
러시아의 세르게이 라브로프 외무장관은 우즈베키스탄에서 벌어진 폭력사태는 아프가니스탄의 정권에서 축출된 탈레반을 포함한 극단주의자들의 소행이라고 말했습니다.

The eastern Uzbek city Andijon was mostly quiet today (Sunday) after two days of violence between soldiers and anti-government demonstrators.
But there are now reports of new clashes between armed men and government troops in an area close to the border with Kyrgyzstan. Several soldiers were reported killed in the skirmishes.
Uzbek military forces sealed off part of Andijon, prompting many people to stay home. But others ventured out to search for bodies of their loved ones or to bury the dead.
Estimates of the victims vary widely. According to many witnesses, hundreds of people died when Uzbek army troops fired indiscriminately on unarmed protesters Friday.
But President Islam Karimov said only a small number of people died, stressing soldiers had orders not to shoot women and children. He blamed the unrest on Islamic radicals seeking to overthrow the government.
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has condemned the Uzbek government's crackdown on protesters in the city of Andijon.
Speaking Sunday on the BBC, Mr. Straw said there had been a clear abuse of human rights, and urged Uzbek officials to allow foreign observers and international aid groups such as the Red Cross to survey the situation.
The Associated Press says that an Uzbek foreign ministry statement called Mr. Straw's comments ill-informed.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov blamed regional extremists, including Afghanistan's Taleban, for the violence.
