중국의 후진타오 국가주석은 12일, 타이완의 천수이벤 총통에게 대화를 갖자고 제안했으나, 대화는 하나의 중국 원칙을 천수이벤총통이 수용할 경우에만 가능하다고 말했습니다.
후진타오 주석의 이같은 발언은 베이징에서 타이완의 야당인 제임스 쑹 친민당 주석과의 회담중에 나왔습니다. 중국은 정당이나 과거사에 관계없이 양안관계를 발전시키기 위해서 타이완의 그 누구와도 회담을 가질 것이라고 후주석은 밝혔습니다.
제임스 쑹 주석은 지난 한 달간 야당 지도자로써는 두번째로 중국을 방문해 중국 고위 지도자들과 회담을 가졌습니다. 쑹 주석은 중국에서의 연설도중 중국 본토와의 통일을 위한 친민당의 결의를 강조했습니다.
쑹주석은 또한 타이완을 향한 중국의 위협을 철회하고 대신 경제 관계 및 다른 교류를 증진하는데 초점을 맞출것을 중국측에 촉구했습니다.

China's Communist Party chief, President Hu Jintao made a fresh offer today (Thursday) to open dialogue with Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian, but only if he accepts the one-China principle.
Mr. Hu's comments came during a meeting with Taiwan opposition leader James Soong in Beijing. Mr. Hu said Beijing would hold talks with anyone, regardless of their political party or what they did in the past, in order to develop cross-strait relations.
Mr. Soong, chairman of the People First Party, is the second Taiwan opposition politician in a month to tour China and hold discussions with top Chinese leaders.
In his speeches in China, Mr. Soong has emphasized his party's commitment to reunification with the mainland. He has also urged Beijing to drop its threats to attack Taiwan and instead focus on boosting economic ties and other links.
