백악관은 북한의 우주발사체 발사가 안보리 결의에 위배된다고 규탄했습니다. 미국과 동맹 방어에 필요한 모든 조치를 취할 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 함지하 기자가 보도합니다.
백악관은 21일 “미국은 탄도미사일 기술을 이용한 북한의 우주발사체(SLV) 발사를 강력히 규탄한다”고 밝혔습니다.
[백악관 성명] “The United States strongly condemns the DPRK for its launch of a space launch vehicle (SLV) using ballistic missile technology, which is a brazen violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions, raises tensions, and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region and beyond. This space launch involved technologies that are directly related to the DPRK intercontinental ballistic missile program.”
백악관은 이날 에이드리언 왓슨 국가안보회의(NSC) 대변인 명의의 성명에서 “이는 여러 유엔 안보리 결의를 뻔뻔하게 위반하고 긴장을 고조시키며 역내와 그 너머의 안보 상황을 불안정하게 만들 위험이 있다”고 비판했습니다.
특히 “이번 우주 발사에는 북한의 대륙간탄도미사일 프로그램과 직접적으로 관련이 있는 기술도 포함돼 있다”고 지적했습니다.
백악관은 “(바이든) 대통령과 국가안보팀은 동맹, 파트너와 긴밀히 협력해 상황을 평가하고 있다”고 강조했습니다.
[백악관 성명] “The President and his national security team are assessing the situation in close coordination with our allies and partners. We urge all countries to condemn this launch and call on the DPRK to come to the table for serious negotiations. The door has not closed on diplomacy but Pyongyang must immediately cease its provocative actions and instead choose engagement. The United States will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the American homeland and the defense of our Republic of Korea and Japanese allies.”
이어 “우리는 모든 나라들이 이번 발사를 규탄할 것을 촉구하고, 북한이 진지한 협상을 위한 테이블로 나오기를 촉구한다”고 밝혔습니다.
그러면서 “외교의 문은 닫히지 않았지만 북한은 도발적인 행동을 즉시 중단하고 대신 관여를 선택해야 한다”고 덧붙였습니다.
또한 “미국은 미국 본토의 안전과 동맹인 한국, 일본의 방위를 보장하기 위해 필요한 모든 조치를 취할 것”이라고 밝혔습니다.
앞서 북한은 21일 오후 10시 43분경 동창리 일대에서 3차 군사정찰위성 발사를 감행했습니다.
북한의 인공위성 발사는 탄도미사일 기술을 이용한 북한의 모든 발사체 발사를 금지한 유엔 안보리 결의에 대한 위반입니다.
