토니 블링컨 미국 국무장관이 박진 한국 외교장관과 전화 통화를 하고 북한의 동해상 북방한계선 이남 탄도미사일 도발에 대한 대응 방안을 논의했습니다. 두 장관은 북한의 도발을 강력 규탄했고, 블링컨 장관은 모든 수단을 동원해 동맹을 보호할 것이라고 강조했습니다. 조은정 기자가 보도합니다.
토니 블링컨 미 국무장관이 미국 시각 1일 박진 한국 외교부 장관과 전화통화를 하고 북한의 탄도미사일 도발에 대해 논의했습니다.
네드 프라이스 국무부 대변인은 2일 발표한 성명에서 “블링컨 장관과 박 장관이 한국 해안선 부근에 무모하고 위험하게 떨어진 것을 비롯해 긴장을 격화시키는 북한의 탄도미사일 발사를 규탄하고 깊은 우려를 나타냈다”고 밝혔습니다.
[프라이스 대변인] “Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Park jointly condemned and expressed deep concern about the DPRK’s escalatory launch of ballistic missiles, including one that recklessly and dangerously landed near the ROK coastline. The Secretary reaffirmed the ironclad U.S. commitment to the ROK’s security and safety and stressed the need for the international community to unite in holding the DPRK accountable for its continued provocations. Both officials strongly condemned the DPRK’s continued and blatant disregard for multiple UN Security Council resolutions and the deeply destabilizing effect its actions are having on the region.”
프라이스 대변인은 이어 “블링컨 장관은 한국의 안보와 안전에 대한 철통같은 공약을 재확인하고, 북한의 계속되는 도발에 대한 책임을 묻는 데 국제사회가 단결할 필요성을 강조했다”고 밝혔습니다.
또 “두 장관은 북한이 다수의 유엔 안전보장이사회 결의들을 계속 노골적으로 무시하고 지역에 심각한 불안정을 초래하는 것을 강하게 비난했다”고 밝혔습니다.
[프라이스 대변인] “The Secretary emphasized that the United States would take all necessary measures to ensure the security of our allies and will continue efforts to limit the DPRK’s ability to advance its unlawful ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction programs.”
프라이스 대변인은 블링컨 장관은 “미국이 동맹국들의 안전을 보장하기 위해 필요한 모든 조치를 취하고 북한의 불법 탄도미사일과 대량살상무기 프로그램을 진전시키는 능력을 제한하기 위한 노력을 계속할 것을 강조했다”고 말했습니다.
블링컨 장관은 아울러 최근 이태원에서의 비극에 대해 깊은 애도를 표하며 미한 간 굳건하고 지속적인 우정을 강조했다고 프라이스 대변인은 전했습니다.
