Before we find out what it means to freak out, let’s listen to today’s conversation. Listen carefully.

Freak out
Alice: Oh man! What do I do? What do I do? Ah!
Jen: Why are you freaking out?
Alice: Ugh! I’m freaked out because I accidently dropped my car keys where the elevator door opens and closes! What do I do?
Jen: Don’t worry. We can retrieve it. Let’s go to the lobby security and tell him what had happened. He would be able to help you.

본문에서 Alice가 제게 “Oh man! What do I do? What do I do? Ah! 라고 하자 제가 “Why are you freaking out? I’m freaked out because I accidently dropped my car keys where the elevator door opens and closes! What do I do? We can retrieve it. Let’s go to the lobby security and tell him what had happened. He would be able to help you. Now keep today’s expression ‘Freak out’ in mind and let’s hear the conversation again.

To freak out means to become very excited, surprised or upset to the point of irrational behaviors. It simply means to lose ones’ self-control and go ballistic. A person may freak out because of many different reasons. It may be because of a person or a situation. In today’s conversation Alice is freaking out because she accidently dropped her car keys in between the elevator doors. “Ugh! I’m freaked out because I accidently dropped my car keys where the elevator door opens and closes! What do I do?”

“Lisa freaked out when she saw a spider on her desk.” Here is another example sentence. “I freaked out and got very upset when I found out I didn’t pass the test.” Now that you know what today’s expression means, let’s listen to the conversation for the last time.

Let’s review what we have learned today. To freak out means to become very excited, surprised or upset to the point of irrational behaviors. FREAK OUT. Now try using this expression on your own. 지금까지 ENGLISH WITH YOO에 Jennifer Yoo입니다. Until next time, bye bye!
