Palestinian Officials Fly To Paris, Arafat Remains In Intensive Care  - 2004-11-08

Top Palestinian officials are flying to Paris to meet French leaders and consult with doctors caring for Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat.

A French hospital spokesman today said Mr. Arafat remained in stable condition in intensive care, but doctors have limited visits to his bedside.

There still has been no public diagnosis of his condition, and some Palestinian leaders have expressed frustration over the lack of information about his health.

Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia, his predecessor Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian foreign minister, Nabil Sha'ath, briefly canceled their trip to Paris after Mr. Arafat's wife (Suha) publicly denounced them as plotters scheming to take over her husband's role as Palestinian leader.

Some Palestinian leaders criticized her comments and called on her to apologize.
